About the Artist:
Emily Jenkins is an American ceramic artist based in Southeast Michigan. Her works are both sculptural and functional, including dinnerware with sculptural elements. She works in red and white stonewares, developing many of her own glazes and firing her electric kiln to cone 6-8.
Emily earned her BFA in textiles from Eastern Michigan University in 2006 and, beyond a semester of ceramics in university, she is largely self-taught and has been working in her home studio-shed since 2019 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
You can find Emily’s work locally at shops such as Argus Packard Cafe, Ann Arbor Art Center, the Center Gallery in Glen Arbor, as well as at various artisan markets and festivals.
Artist Statement:

I am inspired by many things, including historical forms, mysticism, folklore and fairytales, and the unsettling visual nature of fresh growth and decay within the natural world.
In each piece that I create I aim to evoke a sense of wonder and curiosity, inviting the viewer to get just a little bit closer to inspect.
