About the Artist:

Emily Jenkins is an American ceramic artist based in Southeast Michigan. Her works are primarily functional, including dinnerware and mugs with sculptural decorative elements. She works primarily in red and white stonewares, developing many of her own glazes and firing her electric kiln to cone 7-8.

Emily earned her BFA from Eastern Michigan University in 2006, and beyond her limited work in the university ceramic studios she is largely self-taught and has been working in her home studio-shed since 2019 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

You can find Emily’s work locally at shops such as Argus Packard Cafe and Dexter Mill, as well as at various artisan markets and festivals.

Artist Statement:

I am inspired by both the beauty and the unsettling visual nature of new growth and decay, and the way those stages of existence are able to draw the viewer in for a more intimate interaction.

In each piece I create, I aim to utilize texture, form and glaze to create a visual and tactile experience, inviting a slow, calming exploration by the user.
