    Lover’s Eye 1

    Each lover's eye trinket is individually hand sculpted, painted in underglaze and then glazed with clear glaze and metallic gold glaze - no molds are used! They are approximately 2.5" wide and have a small metal loop on the back for ease of hanging. Lover's eyes were originally Georgian era, and painted in watercolor or enamel. It's said that they originated with the Prince of Wales's need to keep his marriage to Maria Fitzherbert a secret - so he had a portrait of only her eye painted and he wore it under his lapel, in secret. When they were at their height in popularity, lover's eyes were found in jewelry, trinket boxes and small frames.
