  • Each lover's eye trinket is individually hand sculpted, painted in underglaze and then glazed with clear glaze and metallic gold glaze - no molds are used! They are approximately 2.5" wide and have a small metal loop on the back for ease of hanging. Lover's eyes were originally Georgian era, and painted in watercolor or enamel. It's said that they originated with the Prince of Wales's need to keep his marriage to Maria Fitzherbert a secret - so he had a portrait of only her eye painted and he wore it under his lapel, in secret. When they were at their height in popularity, lover's eyes were found in jewelry, trinket boxes and small frames. There are seven lover's eyes total in this shop update, all hand crafted and fired to cone 7 oxidation in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Have questions? Feel free to message me on instagram, or email me at sevenmagpiespottery@gmail.com!

  • Each observant heart, or Oculus Cordis (latin for "eye of the heart"), is individually hand sculpted and decorated and has a keyhole slot on the back for hanging - though you don't have to hang it! These sculptures are a design that I developed based on ancient symbolism and roman/pre-roman votives. The eye is a symbol of protection and watchfulness, and when used as part of the Oculus Cordis imagery it symbolizes the human consciousness and ability to divine truth. The photo of the back of one of these hearts is to show how they hang, and may not be the back of this exact sculpture. Hand crafted and fired to cone 7 oxidation in Ann Arbor, Michigan. • Each observant pomegranate ornament is individually hand sculpted - no molds used! Their vibrant red coloring, delicate crown and expressive single eyes are sure to bring a certain charm to your holiday tree or even your regular year-round decoration. These observant fruits are a design that I developed based on ancient symbolism and roman/pre-roman votives. The eye is a symbol of protection and watchfulness. I like to think that these odd little fellows might watch over your home, bringing good luck and safety wherever they are. Hand crafted and fired to cone 7 oxidation in Ann Arbor, Michigan. • Each observant pear ornament is individually hand sculpted - no molds used! Their vibrant chartreuse coloring, delicate freckling (called lenticels in botany!) and expressive single eyes are sure to bring a certain charm to your holiday tree or even your regular year-round decoration. These trinkets do not have the ability to be hung, as opposed to the ornament version.  These pears are a design that I developed based on ancient symbolism and roman/pre-roman votives. The pear is a symbol of prosperity and longevity (and commonly associated with females), and the eye is a symbol of protection and watchfulness. I like to think that these odd little fellows might watch over your home, bringing good luck and safety wherever they are. Hand crafted and fired to cone 7 oxidation in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
