Remain humble to the medium,
true to the process,
and authentic to one’s self.

Running a full time business that centers around the outdoors can be such a struggle sometimes. It’s so nice to come back to my wheel after a long week of working at the horse farm.

Still, there’s always the fear (or reality) that after a few days away my throwing skills have begun to wane. I think more than that, I may be tired or sore from the week’s work with horses, or maybe it’s even a self fulfilling prophecy and it’s actually my confidence that does me in.

Whatever it is, I’m finding that in pottery I can often push through this if I step back for a few breaths and really appreciate just how truly humbling working with clay can be.

You can’t force it; you have to stabilize yourself before the clay will work for you.
